Thailand Issued International Driving Permit

The holder of a Thai Driving License can obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) which will allow them to use their Thai license in another country provide it is a party to the International Convention(s).

The IDP expires one year after the date of issue and it is not valid for driving in Thailand.


DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

(Note: sign all photocopies)

  • Photo copy of your Thai Driving License 5 Year Driving License (IDPs are not issued to those having the initial 2 year Temporary Driving License). Have the original with you in case asked to show it at time of application.
  • Original Passport
  • Photo - 2 recent (3.0cm high x 2.5 cm wide)
  • Photocopies of passport pages:
  • Identity page with photo
  • Non-Immigrant Visa Stamp
  • Latest Extension of Stay Stamp
  • Latest Entry Stamp
  • Original Residence Certificate from your Embassy or Thai Immigration (Click here for Pattaya Immigration information on obtaining a Residence Certificate - 300 baht fee) Note: For Residence Certificate, it is usually easier and less expensive to obtain from Thai Immigration. 
  • 505 baht for the fee


CHONBURI LAND TRANSPORT OFFICE


The nearest LTO to Pattaya where you can obtain an IDP is on the north side of Chonburi City, approximately an hours drive north toward Bangkok.

The quickest method is to use the Motorway 7 exiting on Highway 361 avoiding city traffic and traffic lights.
