PCEC Meeting - Improv Day

  • 27 Apr 2022
  • 09:00
  • Holiday Inn - Bay Tower (fronts Beach Road)

Pattaya Players will present its stepchild improv group Up to You.

Pattaya Players notes that Improvisational theater has entertained millions over the years.

Improvisational theatre, often called improvisation or improv, is the form of theatre, often comedy, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the performers (Wikipedia).

Pattaya Players will set up the boundaries and the rest is up to the audience to decide the scene. There will be high audience participation although no one will be asked to come onstage.

The cast will be four Americans (Sheldon Penner, Sherman Richardson, Doug Campbell and Lisa T, their newest member from Tennessee). The fifth  will be Paul Strahan from Bonnie Scotland.

Pattaya Players' Doug Campbell tells us the format will be similar to the American TV show Who’s Line Is It Anyway.  The show consists of a panel of four performers who create characters, scenes, and songs on the spot, in the style of short-form improvisation games. Topics for the games are based on either audience suggestions or predetermined prompts from the host, who would set up a game and situation that the performers would improvise.

Pattaya Players has often provided enjoyable performances at PCEC meetings. Established in January 2008, their vision is to create an artistically adventurous environment that attracts and excites diverse members of the Pattaya community by providing theatrical productions that entertain, inspire and inform.
