We are privileged to have as our guest speaker Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, a structural engineer with impeccable credentials. Prof Worsak was a member of the Fellow of the Royal Society of Thailand, recognized as a National Researcher of Thailand in 1999.

He will be discussing the building collapse in Bangkok because of the Myanmar earthquake that happened in March 2025, noted in Wikipedia by the following:

On 28 March 2025, an under-construction building intended for the State Audit Office collapsed in Bangkok, Thailand, following a devastating earthquake that occurred in Myanmar. . . Already topped-out, the building was 30% complete and, at the time of collapse, undergoing piping and glass wall installation. The skyscraper was the only building affected by the earthquake in Thailand, and the collapse was one of the deadliest single instances of structural failure in Thailand's history.

In addition to being a structural engineer, he was previously a university administrator and Professor Emeritus at the Asian Institute of Technology. He served as Founding Executive Director of the Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation at Chulalongkorn University, and President of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) from 2014 to 2018, becoming the first Thai national and alumnus to become AIT's president.

Professor Worsak was inducted into the Royal Society of Thailand’s Academy of Science in 2016, the AIT Hall of Fame in 2019 and Chulalongkorn Engineers Hall of Fame in 2022. He is a Royal Scholar of the Royal Society of Thailand.  He earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Chulalongkorn University in 1971, followed by a Master of Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in 1973 and in 1978 completed his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering and Mechanics at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
